Sts’ailes First Nation Tour: Cultural Tourism and Community Food Sovereignty

This tour will visit the Sts’ailes First Nation’s cultural tourism and community food sovereignty site. The interactive tour will feature Sts’ailes customs and culture through song and sharing herbal medicines harvested in the territory. The tour will discuss the nation’s history of cultivating food and managing soils since time immemorial through forest gardening. This ancestral practice is the subject of ongoing research in partnership with Sts’ailes and two other nations (Ts’msyen and Gitxsan), UBC and SFU. We’ll learn about efforts to revitalize the site including invasive species removal and what lies ahead for the project’s goals of growing healthy and traditional foods for the community. The site features an impressive eagle viewing tower that participants are welcome to climb up and check out the view from above the trees!

This tour is happening on Tuesday, November 25th from 1:30pm – 4:30pm (travel time included). Transportation included.
