2025 BC Organic Conference Session

Organic soil management practices to ensure replant success for perennial fruit crops

Tom will start by presenting information about the pests and pathogens that build up over time in root zone soil of different perennial fruit crops, and how such “replant disease complexes” can have particularly severe effects when those crops are replanted. He will discuss the relationships between overall soil health and the occurrence of replant disease complexes. Then, he will review research over the past two decades on organic soil management practices that can be used to reduce the impacts of replant disease complexes and ensure good establishment of highly valuable perennial fruit crops.
